Access Scioto County Transit Buses Use Propane

Access Scioto County (ASC) buses use cleaner-burning, affordable propane autogas to fuel their fleet. As a result, ASC reduces greenhouse gases by up to 25% and produces up to 60% less carbon monoxide compared to gasoline-powered vehicles.

ASC began converting its 10-bus fleet to propane in late 2012. Since then, the transit system has saved over $55,000 in fuel costs. These savings came from switching to cleaner and more efficient propane autogas.

In addition, by converting to propane, ASC has made better use of taxpayer money. This move not only cuts costs, but also supports more sustainable transit operations..

Josh Arrick, of Arrick’s Propane in Lucasville, Ohio, presented a check for almost $18,000 to Larry Mullins, Coordinator of Access Scioto County Public Transit, at a quarterly ASC Advisory Board meeting in April of 2015.

The check was part of a tax incentive program available from the federal government for businesses and organizations using alternative fuels, such as propane, to operate motor vehicles.

“It has been a great partnership with Arrick’s Propane that has helped us save money, protect the environment, and help the local economy.”

Currently, ASC gets all of its propane from Arrick’s Propane of Lucasville, Ohio. Importantly, propane is 100% American-made, which means less reliance on foreign oil for Access Scioto County Transit.

Buying propane vehicles or converting your fleets to propane autogas is made easier with the rebates available from the Ohio Propane Gas Association. Specifically, OPGA offers up to $5,000 in rebates per entity, $1,000 each for vehicles or mowers.
